June 2022 GCSE Maths Exam Past Paper, Paper 1 Non-Calculator, AQA

I usually get side tracked when trying to go through past papers and post all the answers online - sometimes it's just a pain to write fractions and powers etc. on the wordpress editor. However I will do my best and hopefully this will be useful to you.

Question 1:

Which of these is the equation of a straight line?

\[y\ =\ 6x^{2\ \ }\ \ \ \ \ y\ =\ x\ -\ 6\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ y\ =\ x^{2\ }+\ 6\ \ \ \ \ y\ =\ \frac{6}{x}\]

Looking at the choices, any graphs with any powers of x and/or fractions are not going to be a straight line.

That leaves us with option which is the second option: y = x - 6.

If you do ever get stuck on a one mark question, leave it and come back to it at the end when your brain has warmed up.

With this one you could always do a quick sketch for each graph by making up some coordinates, but only do that when you've finished and checked the rest of the paper as its only one mark :)

Question 2: What is 0.28 as a fraction of 0.8.

\[\frac{7}{20}\ \ \ \ \ \frac{2}{7}\ \ \ \ \frac{20}{7}\ \ \ \ \frac{7}{2}\]

Hmmm, they are being tricksy here.

Change them both into whole numbers by multiplying both by 100.

This gives 28 and 80. So the fraction is

\[\frac{28}{80}\ which\ is\ much\ nicer\ and\ simplifies\ down\ to\ \frac{7}{20}\]

There are lots of things that could confuse you here, especially if you are feeling stressed out at the start of the exam.

It also looks like it should be a top heavy fraction.

Be careful with questions like this.

Question 3:

Circle the Calculation that increases 240 by 7.5%

240 × 1.0705 240 × 1.705 240 × 1.075 240 × 1.75

This is testing your knowledge of changing percentages into decimals as well as percentage increase.

7.5% as a decimal is 0.075 you need to add this to 1 for an increase multiplier, which the correct answer 1.075.
